Data Analysis and Interpretation In selecting the appropriate statistical test for your data analysis, you need to identify the question or hypothesis for the study. Are you trying to compare groups, interested in finding out if there is a relationship between two or more variables, or are you trying to predict. Some factors to consider as well are the following: (1) Research design, (2) Level of measurement: nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio, (3) Number of groups, and if they are correlated (dependent) or independent, (4) Number of variables, and know which is the dependent and independent variable, and (5) Know when to choose a parametric versus a non-parametric test. The flowchart and the Appendix E section of the book on How to Use SPSS eighth edition of Brian Cronk (2014), was used as a guide to answer the questions below. Answer this question for the four studies below: Which statistical test you would use to analyze the data collected for these variables? Study A* Variable 1 is psychiatric patients’ gender; and Variable 2 is whether or not the patient has attempted suicide in the past 12 months.
